Join the Learning Disabilities Association of Arkansas!

The Learning Disabilities Association of Arkansas is a non-profit, volunteer organization for parents and professionals devoted to defining and pursuing solutions to the broad spectrum of learning disorders. LDAA is a state affiliate of the Learning Disabilities Association of America and was chartered in 1963.

Our members include educators, therapists, other professionals and parents who care for Arkansans with disabilities. Members enjoy all the activities listed below as well as quarterly newsletters and (coming soon to our website) referrals from our lists of area resources. Additional professional development activities are being planned for 2012.

LDAA Activities:

Monthly UPHOLD – Understanding that People Have Options for Learning Disabilities – meetings are free and open to anyone associated with children who have learning disabilities. UPHOLD meetings occur every third Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the Little Rock Christian Academy campus (19010 Highway 10, Little Rock). Teachers who attend UPHOLD meetings may receive 1.5 hours of continuing education units at each meeting.

The LDAA 2012 Ralph G. Norman scholarship is offered to Arkansas residents with learning disabilities who are pursuing higher education and who are ineligible for Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability funding. The application process begins in January and wraps in April. Scholarship recipients receive scholarships for both vocational and university training.

The annual LDAA conference brings administrators, educators, special educators, reading specialists, academic therapists, speech-language pathologists and parents together to learn the latest treatment and teaching strategies for children with learning disabilities. The conference offers professional development hours and insight from local professionals and regional or national speakers.

LDAA provides area schools, churches and other organizations with our educational learning disability simulation workshops, where we engage participants in activities designed to replicate experiences from a disabled individual’s perspective.

Your LDAA membership includes membership in the Learning Disabilities Association of America, our national organization.
